Since this is your first application i would probably recommend starting with ASP.NET and C#. It’s relatively easy to learn and implement and web project within the dot net framework. However, I do like the control and features that server side Java (JSP,Servlets,JSF,etc…) programming allows. The down side do java is that deploying the application once it’s written is somewhat cumbersome. There’s also PHP.. which i personally ****! with a passion.. but is very similar to ASP.
Eitherway whichever technology you use, there are plenty of example and tutorials online that can guide you through getting started.
What are you developing this application in? ASP.NET? PHP? JSP?
